ASME SA537 Class 2, API 5L X80 / CSA Z245.1 Grade 550 Plates for Sale!

API or CSA Grade plates

Qualitest has large amount of API or CSA Grade plates including API 5L X80 / CSA Z245.1 Grade 550 plates in various thickness for welding procedure (WPS /PQR) development & other purposes. If you need API 5L X80 / CSA Z245.1 Grade 550 plates, we can ship it to you on the same day or sooner the possible. If you are in Edmonton Alberta, or near by area, then you can come and pick-up the plates at any time. All the plates come with proper marking and MTR’s.

API and CSA Grade plates

Though both specifications are intended to identify pipe production details for use in pipeline fabrication, the CSA version deals with many cold-temperature concerns (where API 5L is silent). There is no monogram license requirement for pipe Manufacturer, no composite index of approved Manufacturer, no legal requirements.

In fact, the pipeline design specification (CSA Z662) allows for use of CSA Z245.1 pipe, API 5L pipe, ASTM grade pipe, etc. provided that the material properties have been determined by a professional engineer as appropriate for that service. CSA Z245.1 pipe is not listed for use in ASME BPVC or ASME B31.X piping systems, so it would need to be multi-certified or approved by the local pressure vessel authority prior to use in these applications.

Though CSA Z245.1 has its own tables for product dimensions, the table is vastly identical to that of ASME B36.10, especially as they refer to normal schedules of pipe (STD, XS, XXS, and numbered schedules). Therefore, Z245.1 pipe products are often multi-certified to similar ASTM and API 5L grades, where the requirements of all these specifications are met. Note that the Z245.1 spec requires that the pipe have metric dimensions stated (Canada formally adopted the metric system in the 1970s), though nominal pipe size and schedules are still very commonly used.We have large quantity of of ASME SA537 Class 2 plates in various thickness for welding procedure development & other purposes. If you need ASME SA537 Class 2 plates, we can ship it to you on the same day or sooner. If you are in Edmonton Alberta, or near by area, then you can come and pick-up the plates at any time. All the plates come with proper marking and MTR’s. Also, our price is very reasonable too. Also, our price is very reasonable too.

What is Charpy impact test, and how Qualitest Canada performs it with fully automatic equipment in Nisku / Edmonton, Alberta?

Charpy Impact test

The Charpy Impact Test is commonly used on metals, but is also applied to composites, ceramics and polymers. With the impact test one most commonly evaluates the relative toughness of a material, and as such, it is used as a quick and economical quality control device.

This impact test shows the relationship of ductile to brittle transition in absorbed energy at a series of temperatures. Since iron and all other body-centered cubic metals undergo a transition from ductile behavior at higher temperatures to brittle behavior at lower temperatures, this test is required today for a number of important steel products including steel plates, pipes, vessels, weld metals, machineries and heavy equipment etc.

Charpy impact testing involves striking a standard notched specimen with a controlled weight pendulum swung from a set height. The standard Charpy-V notch specimen is 55mm long, 10mm square and has a 2mm deep notch with a tip radius of 0.25mm machined on one face. In some circumstances, sub-size Charpy specimens can be tested with thickness less than 10mm.

Factors that affect the Charpy impact energy of a specimen will include:

• Yield strength and ductility
• Notches
• Temperature and strain rate
• Fracture mechanism

How Qualitest Canada performs the Charpy Impact Test?

Qualitest Canada can perform charpy impact test on various metals and temperature upto -80C. Qualitest Canada has latest and high tech equipment which is fully automatic with digital reading. Because of the top notch equipment, the test accuracy is very high and the human error is ‘ZERO’. The productivity is also very high comparing to any other manual equipment which does the similar test. So, Qualitest Canada can expedite the tests and send the results to clients as earliest as possible. Clients are most welcome to witness the test as we would like to them to see our other testing equipment as well.

Why you need an Experts for welding procedures (WPS) development and qualification (PQR)?

Experts for welding procedures

Qualitest Canada has experts for welding procedures development. Our experienced staff can assist you in developing a welding procedure to align with your project requirements and keep within compliance of Clients specifications, Provincial requirements (ABSA, BC Boiler Safety, TSASK etc.), applicable construction codes and standards. We can also provide Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) consulting and documentation interpretation.

Our Engineers are fully aware of the provincial requirements like ABSA, BC Boiler Safety, TSASK etc, and they can prepare your weld procedure as per your project requirements. We provide WPQ specs for ASME, CSA, AWS, API standards and Client’s requirements. This are the reasons, you need Expert for welding procedure (WPS) development and qualification (PQR).

A welding procedure qualification is necessary to ensure quality and durability of your welds. Each standard has its own nuances and details that require guidance from experienced professionals, like those found at Qualitest Canada.

Welding Procedure Development & Qualification

A WPS is the official document that describes a specific welding procedure that is used as a guide for your welders to insure they are using proper techniques to produce dependable and quality welds as per the code specification. A WPS is developed for each type of material being used as well as the different welding types and are usually based of off the specific codes from the ASME, CSA, AWS and API. Every welding procedure specification is backed by a procedure qualification record.

Procedure Qualification Record (PQR)

Once a WPS is developed or interpreted from client specification a welding procedure qualification record is required to support the WPS and insure that the procedure produces strong quality welds. A PQR can support one or several WPS as long as they fall under the same required specification. This is required and demonstrates that your company has the knowledge to perform this particular procedure and that your welds possess the correct metallurgical and material properties.

This is determined by sending a test weld through our material testing laboratory where we will certify the WPS with a PQR. Once the procedure is approved by the authority, we can also qualify your welders to assure the required knowledge and skill to perform this procedure is satisfactory.

Geotechnical investigations – Why it is so important for Alberta, BC and SK?

Geotechnical investigations

Geotechnical investigations have acquired substantial importance in preventing human and material damage due to the earthquakes, foundation cracks, and other catastrophes. Geotechnical investigations can be as simple as conducting only a visual assessment of the site or as detailed as a computer-aided study of the soil using laboratory tests. The purposes of a Geotechnical Investigation are to investigate the soil and geologic conditions of a property and to provide recommendations and design criteria for construction. The scope of a Geotechnical Investigation includes review of available literature; conducting on-site exploration, mapping/logging and sampling; and laboratory testing of samples obtained in the field. The collected data is analyzed and geotechnical criteria for foundations, retaining walls, site grading and site drainage are developed.

This criterion chiefly consists of the load bearing capacities and anticipated lateral forces from the onsite soil and rock. The culmination of the investigation is a report summarizing the field and lab findings; conclusions regarding the geotechnical impacts of the site; and recommendations for the most technically suitable construction. Geotechnical investigations have become an essential component of every construction to ensure safety of human beings and materials. It includes a detailed investigation of the soil to determine the soil strength, composition, water content, and other important soil characteristics.

Geotechnical investigations are executed by highly experienced geotechnical engineers and geologists to acquire information regarding the physical characteristics of soil and rocks. The purpose of geotechnical investigations is to design earthworks, pilings and foundations for structures, and to execute earthwork repairs necessitated due to changes in the subsurface environment.

A geotechnical examination includes surface and subsurface exploration, soil sampling, and laboratory analysis. Geotechnical investigations are also known as foundation analysis, soil analysis, soil testing, soil mechanics, and subsurface investigation. The samples are examined prior to the development of the location.

Based on the soil condition, it is very important to carry out a geotechnical investigation in Alberta, BC and SK.
